6:30Now PlayingIain Dale speaks with former Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who warns that Russia poses a "serious threat" to the UK and is "doing everything to undermine security."
Issuing a stark reminder to those who downplay the danger of Vladimir Putin, Yatsenyuk points to the Salisbury poisoning, ongoing cyber crimes, and the bugging of fleets and aircraft.
He urges the West to unite in strengthening defence spending and supporting Ukraine, emphasising that this is essential for maintaining peace.
Yatsenyuk also criticises U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s speech at the Munich defence summit, comparing it to rhetoric used by Vladimir Putin. He calls on the U.S. to reaffirm its commitment to NATO and Ukraine.
His comments come as reports suggest Sir Keir Starmer is set to overrule Rachel Reeves and announce an increase in defense spending ahead of an emergency Ukraine summit in Paris next week.
"Things are going in the wrong direction right now," Yatsenyuk warns. "The free world has to stay united, but the latest speech by JD Vance resembles one given by war criminal Putin."
