Epsom is a nice leafy English town, and like a lot of nice leafy English towns, it's starting to change. About a week ago, there was a horrific assault of a young woman outside a church in Epping, just round the corner from a nightclub that she'd just left.

With the suspects still at large, the community is very concerned and wants to be able to spot the attackers and know if there's anything that might distinguish them.

Surrey Police has said it is still working to identify the identities of those suspected of having carried out the attack. A spokesman said: “At this early stage, we do not have full descriptions of any potential suspects.

But do they have partial descriptions? The men can't have been wearing beekeeper outfits. Did no CCTV cameras capture anything? Were the men completely mute during the whole thing, or did they speak? Did they have an accent?

We're used to seeing the authorities hide the truth about offenders when they think it might inflame the public, but with the offenders at large, the public need to know.

Or are the authorities setting a trap so that they can then turn around and say to the speculating about the ethnicity, "You were wrong, it was white guys all along"?
