12:55Now PlayingIn the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, local police have arrested a Muslim man for allegedly trying to convert a Hindu woman. He's the first to be arrested under the new anti-"love jihad" law. "Love Jihad" is a conspiracy radical Hindu groups promulgate to accuse Muslim men of converting Hindu women by marriage. The woman's father filed the compliant, telling BBC Hindi that he did so because the man "put pressure" on his daughter to accept Islam and threatened her if she refused. The woman was allegedly in a relationship with the man but recently married someone else. The accused was sent to 14 days of judicial custody. He maintained his innocence and said he had "no link with the woman." The anti-conversion law carries a jail term of up to 10 years, and offences under it are non-bailable. At least four other Indian states are drafting similar laws against "love jihad."
