After the militia members allegedly ripped her headscarf and clothes, leaving her bloodied, Daryaei responded with an unprecedented act of defiance: she stripped to her underwear and walked through campus in protest. As Iranian-American activist Masih Alinejad described it, "She turned her body into a protest, stripping to her underwear and marching through campus—defying a regime that constantly controls women's bodies." The incident, captured on video by onlookers, ended with Daryaei being taken away by plainclothes officers to an undisclosed location, while university officials later claimed she suffered from "severe mental pressure and had a mental disorder" – a claim that has been met with skepticism from supporters worldwide who are demanding answers about her whereabouts.
