16:28Now PlayingA shocking 14,000 cases of children accused of witchcraft have surfaced in the United Kingdom over the past decade, shedding light on a hidden crisis of faith-based abuse. The release of the film Kindoki Witch Boy, which tells the story of Mardoche Yembi, a Londoner falsely accused of witchcraft as a child, has reignited conversations about this dark reality. “If a story like Kindoki Witch Boy had been out there when I was a child going through those experiences, I would have felt less alone,” Yembi said, hoping the film will encourage more victims to come forward. The tragedy of Victoria Climbié, an eight-year-old girl tortured and killed in 2000 after being accused of witchcraft, remains a haunting reminder of the consequences of these beliefs. Accused children are often scapegoated for illness or financial misfortune, with some subjected to violent exorcisms or forced into isolation. Unlike Victoria, Yembi was rescued by social services and placed with a foster mother who helped him rebuild his life. Now an advocate for young care leavers, he dedicates his work to keeping Victoria’s memory alive: “Part of this film is for her. She didn’t have a chance to make it. I want to keep her name alive.”
