Dr. Kevin Cannard, a Parkinson’s disease specialist from Walter Reed Medical Center, met with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, President Biden’s personal physician, and two other individuals at the White House residence clinic on January 17. This meeting has gained attention as questions continue to arise about the 81-year-old president’s mental health following his recent debate with former President Trump.
The records also indicate that Dr. John E. Atwood, a cardiologist at Walter Reed, attended the 5 P.M. meeting. The fourth attendee has not been identified in the logs. On the same day, Biden hosted House and Senate leaders to advocate for additional Ukraine funding, as per his official schedule.
Dr. Cannard is a respected authority on Parkinson’s disease with nearly 20 years of experience at Walter Reed. Since 2012, he has served as the neurology specialist supporting the White House Medical Unit, according to his LinkedIn profile. His most recent research paper, published in August 2023 in the journal Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, focuses on the early stages of the disease.
Given Dr. O’Connor’s role as Biden’s primary physician, it is highly probable that the meeting concerned the president’s health, speculated Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tx), who served as the physician for both Presidents Obama and Trump. “It’s highly likely they were talking about Biden,” Jackson told The Post.
President Biden, who has faced persistent questions about his cognitive health, especially after his debate performance, relies daily on Dr. O’Connor. O’Connor has been Biden’s official physician since he took office in January 2021 and maintains daily contact with the president. His primary responsibility is to monitor and support the president’s health, starting each day with a simple greeting to ensure Biden begins his day on the right track, as he mentioned in a trade publication interview in March.
This recent meeting has only intensified scrutiny over Biden’s ability to serve another term, as concerns about his health continue to dominate discussions.
