Former President Donald Trump and his running mate J.D. Vance criticized the Democratic Party for orchestrating what they termed a "coup" against President Biden. In a clip aired Monday on Fox News' "Primetime," hosted by Jesse Watters, Vance argued that if Biden is unfit to run for president, he shouldn't be able to complete his term. They expressed disapproval of Biden's decision to step down in a manner they believe benefits the Democratic Party politically. Vance emphasized the constitutional process, specifically the 25th Amendment, stating that if Biden is mentally incapable of serving, he should be removed through proper channels rather than a politically advantageous strategy for Democrats.
The interview, taped Saturday before Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race on Sunday, saw Vance reiterating this sentiment on social media, questioning Biden's capability to remain in office if he is not fit to campaign. This came after a disastrous debate performance and mounting pressure from prominent Democrats and donors. Biden, in his withdrawal announcement on X, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, which Trump reacted to by labeling Biden as the "worst president in the history of our country."
