Joe Biden stooped to a new low during his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night, spewing divisive and insulting rhetoric that should outrage every American. In a shocking display of arrogance, Biden declared that Trump supporters "can’t think, can’t read very well." This degrading insult is eerily reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s infamous "basket of deplorables" comment from 2016, where she smeared half of Trump’s supporters as racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and Islamophobic.
Biden’s words, delivered with a smirk as the audience laughed along, were not just a cheap shot at Trump’s base—they were an outright attack on millions of Americans who dare to think differently. “Donald Trump and the Republican friends, they not only can’t think, they can’t read very well,” Biden sneered. And as if that wasn't enough, he doubled down, urging the audience to “seriously, think about it” as he criticized their education policies.
This kind of rhetoric is toxic. It’s the same divisive language that Clinton used to alienate and demonize everyday Americans back in 2016. And just like then, it reveals the contempt that Biden and his party hold for anyone who doesn’t fall in line with their elitist agenda. When will the Democratic Party learn that this kind of condescension and name-calling is not the way to unite the country? Biden’s comments were not just an insult to Trump supporters—they were an insult to the intelligence and values of all Americans.
