The Georgia Bureau of Investigation named Colt Gray as the shooter. Investigator say a motive is unclear but in a join statement the FBI with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office revealed law enforcement knew about Gray for more than a year.
The FBI's National Threat Operations Center received several anonymous tips about threats Gray made online. The posts included photographs of guns and the threat to shoot up an unknown school.
The FBI brought the then 13-year-old in for questioning. "The father stated he had hunting guns in the house, but the subject did not have unsupervised access to them," the FBI wrote in a statement. "The subject denied making the threats online. Jackson County alerted local schools for continued monitoring of the subject."
