10:31Now PlayingAir Canada said it has now suspended plans to restart operations on Sunday. This comes after the union representing flight attendants said it will defy a return to work order. For many around the world, it’s already the height of the summer travel season. The strike has already been impacting about 130,000 global travelers daily. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is learning more about this breaking news from John Gradek, a Faculty Lecturer, Supply Networks and Aviation, at McGill University.
In a statement, the Canadian airline said that the union "illegally directed its flight attendant members to defy a direction from the Canadian Industrial Relations Board."
"Our members are not going back to work," Mark Hancock, National President of Canadian Union of Public Employees, said outside Toronto's Pearson International Airport. "We are saying no."
The Canada Industrial Relations Board ordered airline staff to go back to work by 2 p.m. after the government stepped in and Air Canada said it planned to restart flights this weekend.
