Democrats and Republicans are deadlocked, with disputes over health care funding blocking a short-term budget deal. Without an agreement by Tuesday night, nonessential government offices will close and federal workers will face furloughs or unpaid work.
Essential services will continue, but parks, courts, and many civilian operations would be disrupted.
President Trump has continually tired to blame congressional Democrats, despite Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House.
"They are shutting it down, we’re not shutting it down," Trump said.
"We can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible that are bad for them, and then irreversible by them," Trump added.
