as posted by the channelIan Roberts, the Iowa school superintendent arrested by immigration authorities last week, is stepping down from his role, according to his attorneys.
His lawyers told reporters that the decision came in a letter addressed to the Des Moines Public Schools board. Roberts, who was hired by the district in 2023, was detained last week by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after a brief car chase and taken into custody. After his arrest, a loaded handgun was found in his vehicle.
Roberts entered the United States illegally from Guyana, authorities said, adding that he was not legally authorized to work in the U.S. after his employment authorization card expired in 2020.
