3:33Now PlayingOn Tuesday, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed two controversial bills into law, imposing legal penalties on adults who assist minors in receiving gender-affirming care or obtaining an abortion. Governor Lee, a strong advocate of the state's near-total abortion ban, has previously enacted multiple laws restricting minors' access to abortion services. With this move, Tennessee becomes the first state to penalize adults helping minors receive gender-affirming care, even with parental consent, and the second state to penalize those aiding minors in getting an abortion. These laws are set to take effect in July.
