In this excerpt from the latest NIGHT SCHOOL episode, Marc Lamont Hill breaks down the White House’s behind-closed-doors plan to slash $1.3 billion in democracy, press freedom, and human rights grants, almost every program run by the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL).
Out of 391 active grants, only two are expected to survive, one in China and one in Yemen. The rest? Gone. And insiders say the money is being redirected to fund far-right pet projects, including immigration support for white Afrikaners and possible legal help for European fascists like Marine Le Pen.
Hill connects the dots: This isn’t just a funding cut, it’s an intentional erasure of U.S. pro-democracy efforts worldwide, pushed by Trump-aligned figures trying to kill the programs permanently by wiping out the staff. Hill also exposes how the so-called 'America First' agenda is really about authoritarianism and empire, not freedom.
