4:55Now PlayingRoyal Canadian Air Farce was a staple of Canadian comedy for decades, known for its straight faced absurdity and its willingness to poke fun at politicians, soldiers, and everyday Canadians alike. One of the show’s recurring bits, the infamous chicken cannon, perfectly captured that style by treating something completely ridiculous with total seriousness. I did not grow up watching Air Farce, as I did not move to Canada until after the show had already ended, which makes revisiting these sketches even more interesting. In this video, we look at an episode featuring the Brandon Reserve artillery unit, portrayed by actors in a way that would almost certainly not make it to air today, and explore why this kind of humour worked so well at the time.
