as posted by the channelFor over 300 years, pirates from North Africa terrorised merchant ships across the Mediterranean Sea. To the Europeans, they were known as the Barbary Pirates. Dreaded throughout the region for more than just their attacks on ships, the Barbary Pirates would often target European coastal towns and cities. Their main objective? Slaves. In the years between the 16th century and the 19th century, there are estimates that go up to more than a million Europeans enslaved by the Barbary Pirates.
