6:41Now PlayingThe Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill Monday, March 12th, proposing a constitutional amendment prohibiting required union membership and mandatory dues. If approved by the legislature, the question would be placed before the voters in the next general election.
The committee dedicated nearly four hours to the measure, SF 1705, sponsored by Sen. Dave Thompson, R-Lakeville, allowing testimony from proponents and opponents. Union members also filled the Capitol halls and surrounded Room 15, where the hearing occured, demonstrating their opposition to the bill.
The measure will be heard in the Senate Rules and Administration Committee before it considered by the entire Senate.
