47:49Now PlayingGovernor Mark Dayton announced Monday, April 8, a $750 million dollar capital improvements plan, which features $109 million dollar infusion into the ongoing State Capitol renovation project.
According to Dept. of Administration Commissioner Spencer Cronk, the additional funding would continue the project, allowing the replacement of the Capitol's roof and the isntallation of new plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems.
Governor Dayton's proposal also designates $189 million for public higher education institutions, which traditionally receives the greatest amount of dollar from bonding. Of that amount, $85 million is for the STEM Tate Laboratory renovation at the University of Minnesota, and $35 million dollars is designated for infrstructure improvements at MnSCU campuses.
Another $98.5 million is directed for regional civic centers and downtown improvements. Projects would include $35 million dollars for the Rochester Civic Center; $14.5 million for the Mankato Civic Center and $20 million for Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.
The Governor's plan also provides $46.6 million for transportation infrastructure, including $25 million to improve local roads in Arden Hills near the formal arsenal site and the Trunk Highway Turnback in Rochester.
