4:34Now PlayingMinnesota Department of Transportation Commissioner Charlie Zelle and Governor Mark Dayton released on Tuesday, October 7, a list of 13 new transportation projects receiving priority funding through the Corridors of Commerce program. Over the past two years, the Legislature appropriated $331 million dollars for the program, which has resulted in 27 transportation projects, according to the administration.
Seven highway projects slated for Greater Minnesota obtained a boost, including $7.3 million dollars for the expansion of Highway 14 between Owatonna and Dodge Center. Another $45 million dollars is aimed at the expansion of Highway 371 between Nisswa and Jenkins.
Six metro area highway and road projects earned additional funding, including $2 million dollars for design work to improve I-94 between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Also included is about $1 million dollars to design a MnPASS lane on I-35W in the Northern Suburbs, and $1.4 million is added to the Snelling Avenue reconstruction project in St. Paul.
According to Zelle, the additional funding will help MnDOT begin project preparation, such as "work to be done on engineering, purchasing right-of-way, to be able to be prepared to complete projects that are very important for Minnesota."
