Anyone visiting the State Capitol over the past several years likely noticed the ceiling's water damage caused by leakage in various locations. At different times, portion of hallways were partitioned off from traffic due to falling debris. As McMillian explains, a water proofing layer is being installed below new concrete and roof tiles.
The four "beehives," octagon-shaped skylights sitting atop small domes near the rotunda, also are being examined for water leakage and damage. To make the work possible, including the removal of debris and raising of mechanical equipment, the roof project includes a special crane operated remotely.
