9:16Now PlayingIn the 1990’s, Minnesota created MinnesotaCare to provide health insurance to Minnesotans whose incomes were too high for medical assistance but were still need of affordable access to health care. These people are commonly referred to as the “working poor”. Currently, the qualifying annual income range for MinnesotaCare is from roughly $16,000 - $23,000 for an individual – and if your income is higher than that, you qualify for subsidized insurance through the MNSure exchange. A bill before the Senate would raise the MinnesotaCare threshold to roughly $32,000 for an individual and $67,000 for a family of four. Senator Kathy Sheran, DFL-Mankato, talks with Shannon Loehrke about her proposal.
