The bill, sponsored by Senator Alice Johnson, DFL-Blaine, addresses recent concerns over elder abuse in nursing homes in Minnesota. The hidden miniature cameras, referred to as “granny cams”, can be placed inconspicuously in a resident’s room, thereby allowing family members to monitor their loved one’s care. At least twelve states have considered legislation allowing cameras to detect and deter abuse in nursing homes.
