Capitol Report: Moving to Governing, Agricultural Mergers

The election season must now transition into a time of governance, and newly elected officials with views across the political spectrum will be tasked to find common ground to improve the welfare of the country and the state. Dr. Larry Jacobs of the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute joins Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to discuss the tasks facing newly elected legislators.

Also on the program, rural Minnesota is already feeling a squeeze in many ways through the loss of younger population, declining businesses, and low crop prices. Globally, six or seven agri-food businesses have provided the majority of the seeds and chemicals. Over the summer, due to proposed mergers, that number would be just three, sparking many governments, included the United States, and many agricultural states, including Minnesota, to ask questions. Representative David Bly, DFL-Northfield, joins Shannon to express his concerns about the agricultural trends.

Finally, Producer Jon Brune explains how the construction of Minnesota's roads, highways, bridges and transit are funded.
