27:30Now PlayingAt a press conference Monday, January 23, a handful of DFL Senators and Representatives promoted new legislation that would affect reproductive health care in Minnesota. The Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, authored by Representative Erin Murphy (DFL-St. Paul) and Senator Sandra Pappas (DFL-St. Paul), would assure that women have access to contraceptive coverage from any insurance company that covers prescription drugs, without cost-sharing or deductibles.
The Physician Integrity Act, authored by Representative Laurie Halverson (DFL-Eagan) and Senator Matt Klein (DFL-Mendota Heights), would authorize health care providers to provide information to patients that is medically accurate, evidence based, and appropriate for the patient. According to Representative Halverson, current law requires that certain information, including medically inaccurate information, be given to a woman seeking an abortion. She said this measure “asserts the rights of physicians to provide science-based health care.”
