10:53Now PlayingPrior to the joint House and Senate State Government Finance committee hearing, Republican leaders called a press conference on Tuesday, February 7, to address the report released by the Office of the Legislative Auditor on the improper use of the Vikings stadium suites. Chairs of the State Government Committees in the House and the Senate, Senator Mary Kiffmeyer (R-Big Lake) and Representative Sarah Anderson (R-Plymouth) were joined by Senator Julie Rosen (R-Vernon Center).
A Star Tribune article, published in November 2016, disclosed that U.S. Bank Stadium executives, who controlled two luxury suites on taxpayers’ behalf, provided free access to those suites to friends and family. The article prompted the Legislative Auditor to conduct a special review.
The auditor’s report, also released February 7, found that the Minnesota Sports Facility Authority violated “a core ethical principle” and recommended that the Legislature “exercise stronger control over the Authority and, specifically, its use of complimentary tickets to stadium events”.
Following the GOP press conference, Representatives John Lesch (DFL-St. Paul) and Raymond Dehn (DFL-Minneapolis) came to the podium to provide their perspectives.
