24:47Now PlayingGovernor Mark Dayton made himself available to the media Thursday, February 17, to answer questions regarding the sudden resignations of the chair and the executive director of the Minnesota Sports Facility Authority. The Authority was established by the legislature in 2012 to oversee the construction and operation of U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings.
In November, the Star Tribune published an article disclosing that U.S. Bank Stadium executives, who controlled two luxury suites on taxpayers’ behalf, provided free access to those suites to friends and family. The article prompted the Legislative Auditor to conduct a special review which found that the Authority “violated a core ethical principle”.
GOP lawmakers have been very critical of the Authority’s leadership, and have initiated legislation to reform how agency appointments are made and to clarify how the stadium suites may be used. Chair of the Authority, Michele Kelm-Helgen, and the executive director, Ted Mondale, resigned their positions within hours of each other on Thursday, February 17.
