6:52Now PlayingLieutenant Governor Michelle Fischbach was sworn into office Friday, May 25, resigning her Senate seat and the role of Senate President. Supreme Court Justice G. Barry Anderson administered the oath of office as Lieutenant Governor Fischbach, surrounded by her father, mother, son and daughter-in-law, placed her hand on the family's bible.
Lieutenant Governor Fischbach served in the Minnesota Senate for 22 years, representing parts of Stearns County, including Paynesville, Cold Spring, Sartell, Sauk Rapids, and St. Joseph. She cited her work and accomplishments as chair of the Higher Education Committee as a highlight of her career. She also was the first woman to hold the position of Senate President, being elected by the Senate to that position in 2011.
Governor Dayton said he will call a November 6 special election for the now vacated Senate District 13 seat, and Fischbach said she will not seek reelection to that Senate seat.
