20:42Now PlayingWith about twenty-nine hours remaining in the 2018 legislative session before lawmakers are constitutionally required to adjourn, legislative leaders met with Governor Dayton to attempt to reach global agreements on tax conformity, the supplemental budget and emergency school aid.
Governor Dayton had previously requested $138 million dollars in emergency aid to schools to supplement some district budget shortfalls as a condition for passing the GOP-led tax conformity bill. Republican leaders offered about $225 million dollars by shifting dollars from school trust lands, staff development funds and community education.
Governor Dayton released a statement Friday, May 18, outlining 117 objectionable provisions in the omnibus supplemental budget bill. According to Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, the parties have worked through about sixty percent of the objections.
Negotiations failed to yield a final agreement on the major items.
