Senator Jim Abeler, Chair of the Human Services Reform Committee, has been very vocal in his support, including asking the Governor for a special session to address a funding cut. He joins Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to explain why legislative action is needed soon and also underscores his call for a special agency to review fraud in programs designed to assist disadvantaged Minnesotans.
A new law is on the books that will garner statistics relating to a possible link between pornography and sex trafficking. The author of that bill, Senator Michelle Benson, R-Ham Lake, who is also the Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, joins Shannon to talk about the effort as well as other initiatives pertaining to women’s health.
Also in the program, state lawmakers tell why it is worthwhile for state fairgoers to visit with them at the State Fair, and Paul Mandell of the State Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board features the Workers Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol.
