28:30Now PlayingAccording to the findings of the 2017 Legislative Task Force on Access to Affordable Childcare, there are more children in need of care than spaces available to care for them in every region of the state. Senator Bill Weber, chair of the Senate Childcare Access Working Group, joins Capitol Report Moderator Shannon Loehrke to talk about the work of a special task force created to address the issue.
In 2015, Minnesota enacted a law requiring a statewide audit of untested rape kits. The results revealed a backlog of almost 3,500 untested sexual assault exam kits in police storage. A new law will mandate a timetable for the testing of rape kits, and the Senate bill's author, Senator Jerry Relph, joins Shannon to explain possible outcomes due to the new timetables.
