28:31Now PlayingIn May, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, also known as PASPA or the Bradley Act, was unconstitutional. The federal law banned states, with a few exceptions, from regulating sports betting. Now that the sanction has been lifted, Senator Roger Chamberlain, R-Lino Lakes, joins Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to talk about what might be next for Minnesota.
Governor Mark Dayton proclaimed September as Recovery Month in conjunction with a 28-year old national effort that works to increase awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders. Along these lines, a new initiative, advocated by Senator John Marty, DFL-Roseville, has been adopted by the Department of Human Services that will make it easier for doctors to prescribe medications to treat addiction. The change eliminates the requirement for prior authorization for patients in the Medical Assistance program to receive anti-addiction treatment medication. Senator Marty describes the potential impacts of the modification.
