Governor Tim Walz Recaps Discussion with Opioid Manufacturers

Governor Tim Walz fielded questions from the press Tuesday, February 5, following a conference call with pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors. Walz hosted the call with state and national leaders in the drug industry in an effort to engage all stakeholders, “in keeping with the promises I made to Minnesota, that engaging meaningful conversations of everyone involved in this, whether victims, to physicians, to the entire supply chain, to the distributors and the manufacturers of these opioids,” he said.

Walz cited the conversations as a candid discussion of the role the opioid manufacturers and distributors will need to play in addressing the opioid epidemic.

In a recent Capitol Report interview, Senate Finance Chair Julie Rosen, who is sponsoring the Opiate Stewardship Bill, said that she encouraged the governor to reach out to the key companies, so they can participate in resolving the crisis.
