4:23Now PlayingMinnesota Pollution Control Commissioner Laura Bishop appeared before the Senate Environment Finance and Policy Committees Wednesday, February 19, to explain Governor Walz's directive to enact standards that would reduce vehicle emissions in Minnesota.
Walz's plan would require car manufacturers to deliver low emission vehicles (LEVs) and zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) for sale in Minnesota. As a result, Minnesotans would have more options to purchase electric and hybrid models.
"You don't have to give up your current vehicle or buy a new car," Bishop said. "It's intended to encourage manufacturers to increase the EV numbers and options here in Minnesota," she explained.
"I would love to see this expedited process for copper-nickel opportunities in Minnesota," Senator Justin Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, said. "It takes one hundred pounds of copper-nickel per vehicle in order to have these, and I would hate to see that done in China, where they don't...don't give a damn about the environment," he added.
