1:51:43Now PlayingA measure that would use $17 million dollars in federal funds to make Minnesota's election system more safe and secure won the Senate approval Thursday, May 7.
Sponsored by Senator Mary Kiffmeyer, R-Big Lake, the measure would dedicate a portion of the money for purchasing protective equipment, temporary screens, cleaning and sanitizing supplies. The funds also would be used for improving election security, updating the voting registration system and making polling places more accessible.
In response to the pandemic, the bill would also allow for one-time relocation of polling places to protect vulnerable populations, such as the elderly in nursing homes.
In other action, the Senate approved the following bills:
SF 3255 (Newman) Miscellaneous transportation provisions;
SF 3560 (Benson) Health care policy bill;
SF 3298 (Senjem) City commission members appointment deadline modifications.
