25:51Now PlayingMembers of the DFL Senate called a press conference to reiterate their support for Governor Tim Walz’s Due North Education Plan Tuesday, March 9. Led by the minority lead of the Senate E-12 Education Committee, Senator Chuck Wiger, DFL-Maplewood, said, “It’s crucial that we address each student’s needs now, especially counseling, coping and catching up.”
Senator Greg Clausen, DFL-Apple Valley, Senator Jason Isaacson, DFL-Shoreview, Senator Mary Kunesh, DFL-New Brighton, and Senator Steve Cwodzinski, DFL-Eden Prairie, all former educators, joined the call in support of Governor Walz’s proposal. The Due North plan would spend $150 million in one-time funding to help students transition out of the pandemic and focuses resources towards full-service community schools, high quality early education programs, the recruitment of more teachers of color and indigenous teachers and affordable secondary education programs to train the state’s future workforce needs.
