3:12Now PlayingChennai Central Crime Branch’s Bank Fraud Prevention Wing arrested 3 men for running a fake Call Centre in Thiruvanmiyur and Perungudi luring customers. Based on several complaints from duped people, Thyagarajan, Gopinath and Manibala were arrested. Investigation revealed that they were running 2 Call Centres in the City, even employing people to lure potential victims.
Calls were made as if it originated from private insurance firms and stating that they can provide loans easily. The hand would then collect documents and ask for money from ₹ 10,000 to ₹ 50,000 under the pretext of various charges and collect them through a link sent via SMS. Once the victim pays the money, the gang would severe any connection with the victim.
Investigation team recovered several computers and laptops from the fake call centres. During the period of lockdown alone, CCB has revived more than 300 complaints about such crimes leading to arrest of 26 white-collar offenders.
