3:29Now PlayingA 43-year-old man alleges that he was assaulted and starved by Sathankulam Police. Martin from Thuthukudi district was picked up on 23rd August at 7pm. Later when he was produced in front of a Magistrate on 28th August, Martin claims that the Magistrate began an inquiry noticing his physical condition.
Martin's wife Saroja recalls that policemen arrived at her doorstep around 7pm. She informed Martin who when returned home was allegedly beaten up by the cops and dragged to a vehicle, right in front of her eyes.
Martin had informed the magistrate that 4 policemen had repeatedly hit and kicked him the whole night. He has named Inspector Xavier, Sub Inspector Raja, Constable Sabapathy, and Chinnadurai.
Martin had open wounds on his knees which he claims to have sustained when he was dragged on the floor. He has given his count to Srivaikundam Magistrate even after he was allegedly threatened by Sub Inspector Raja.
Magistrate then let him on bail. He is admitted to the hospital and being treated for breathing difficulty and unable to urinate.
Martin was apparently arrested over a quarrel with his neighbor regarding money and booked under Sections 294 and 506(2) of IPC.
The most shocking part of this case is that the alleged custodial violence Martin suffered involves the same Sathankulam Police station where 10 police officers were suspended and are being investigated by CBI after the alleged custodial death of a father and son, Jayaraj and Bennicks back in June.
