Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic in the world, this is the first time the olympiad was conducted virtually. Prime Minister Narendra Modi put out a tweet congratulating the players. Russia was leading by 4.5 in the second round. Russia had been declared winners initially, however, after India's appeal of server issues, the decision was reversed. The issue was raised and discussed after which both the countries were declared joint winners.
