54:40Now PlayingOn the Urban Debate today, Tanvi Shukla talks about the case that has shaken the nation to its core, i.e. Hathras gang-rape case. The Hathras gang rape case has not only sparked outrage because of the brutality that was committed by those four upper caste men on a Dalit girl, but also what followed after it. The Uttar Pradesh police did not file an FIR initially and the one that was filed did not have any MLC test report in it. The matter was further aggravated when the U.P police cremated the victim’s body in the absence of the family and have restricted their movement from thereon. U.P police have also denied entry to the media and political leaders. But the questions that persist are why U.P police intimidating the family, are they trying to pressurize the family? Have the phones of family members taken away? Why is the media denied doing its job?
The panel on Urban Debate includes the spokespersons from national parties because it is they who should be answerable as well, given that they are showing due interest in this issue. But it is important to find out if their interest is because of their own political motifs or are they genuinely concerned, because even as Congress, Samajwadi Party continue to take on their rival BJP, none of them brought substantial reforms in the policing of the states.
