At the National Thermal Power Corporation's Tapovan-Vishnugad project site, choked by debris after the February 7 flood that ripped into two hydel plants in the Alaknanda river system, nine bodies have been removed from the Adit tunnel so far. In addition to the 54 dead identified, 150 others are still missing. In Chamoli district, the multi-agency rescue operation is based on the Tapovan tunnel, where about 30 employees were feared to be trapped. Near the tunnel, relatives of some of the missing individuals continue their vigil, plucking up the courage to take a look every time a body is carried out. But many are starting to return to their homes right now.
