The COVID-19 cases in India are on a steep rise and amid this massive surge, many growing concerns are being added up in the pandemic study. Punjab says that over 80% of the samples tested show the UK COVID-19 variant.
Lockdown and curfews have been imposed in several districts across the country, in order to curb the Coronavirus spread. The Central Government of India also announced that people aged above 45 will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine jab from the 1st of April.
But, leaving Punjab should the rest of India be worried? Will a widened vaccine policy help curb rising cases? How many people will be benefitted? Do we need to start considering some amount of stepped up, targeted vaccination in worst-hit areas?
Dr Suneela Garg, Member, Lancet Commission COVID India task Force says that ‘We need to step up our strategies & start focusing on rural areas across regions. Whereas, Punjab Youth Congress' Brinderd Hillon says that rallies by other political parties are an issue, adding that connecting the surge to high-profile weddings won't solve anything.
