During the hearing of a PIL petition by M/s Letzkit Foundation on the violation of COVID-19 norms during gatherings, especially those in which political leaders participate, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty issued the directive. The Bench cited media reports claiming that a large number of people at the rally were not wearing masks or keeping social distance. The State government has passed legislation that allows fines to be imposed on both event organizers and individual violators.
