The appeal was sent to 15 non-BJP representatives, including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, DMK chief MK Stalin, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others.
Mamata Banerjee referred to the recent passage by both Houses of Parliament of the contentious National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill as 'an extremely grave creation' in her message. 'The NCT Bill is a direct challenge to the Indian Republic's federal system, as enshrined in the Constitution. It also makes a mockery of democracy's letter and spirit by disempowering the people of the nation's capital'she penned. Mamata Banerjee also wrote about state governments' lack of funding and the diminishing space for them to express the needs of their people.
