2:39Now PlayingGovernor Shaktikanta Das of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the policy decision today, at the conclusion of the Monetary Policy Committee's review, which began on Monday, amid an increase in coronavirus cases and the implementation of new restrictions to combat the second wave of COVID-19 in India. This is the country's first bi-monthly monetary policy review for the new fiscal year 2021-22, as the country braces for yet another looming economic crisis, fuelled by a dramatic increase in active COVID-19 cases.
Despite the fact that the country had received over 8.4 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses cumulatively as of April 6, partial lockdown in some states and a night curfew in the national capital have been implemented to prevent the virus from spreading further. Experts expect that the central bank will keep key policy rates unchanged, but that inflation forecasts could be revised.
