The PM took the decision to call this meeting just after Supreme Court sought the suo moto cognizance on Covid situation. The meeting's main objective was to figure out innovative ways to provide oxygen support to health institution and combat the virus. PM Modi also directed officials to ensure oxygen supply to states in a smooth and unhindered manner. The apex court has sought the plans on these four issues from the Centre: supply of oxygen, supply of essential drugs, method and manner of vaccination, State's power to declare lockdown.
