The country recorded a total of 3.2 lakh cases on May 12 whereas on May 18, while the number of deaths recorded had risen, a total of 2.6 lakh positive cases were logged. States that were the worst hit by the virulent virus ie Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have been showing a downward trend in cases. Daily cases in the country have been down by 19.6% even though testing has been ramped up.
Timely travel restrictions and curbs, lockdown in some states and the vaccination drive that is being conducted albeit at a slow pace are some of the measures that have helped the states control the surging virus.
