The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken note of the development and advised Uttar Pradesh and Bihar (the two most populous states) to immediately stop the practice of burying bodies along the river's banks, as it could spread infection further. About 35 km away from Prayagraj, dead bodies are found buried along the river bank. During this pandemic, this has been a local custom now.
