2:42Now PlayingAs torrential rain soaked Mumbai on Wednesday, two women narrowly missed drowning when they fell into an unprotected manhole in the Bhandup neighborhood. Iqbal Singh Chahal, the municipal commissioner, advised staff to take all necessary precautions to protect citizens on Tuesday. Chahal called a high-level meeting with ward authorities and officials from other government agencies. Manholes in all 24 wards were to be reviewed and constantly supervised by the city leader to avoid any unfortunate occurrences, especially in areas where there is a lot of water. The BMC has also directed Metro authorities to ensure that areas where barricades have been erected for Metro work do not flood.
