According to a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice NV Ramana, who also emphasised that police personnel must respect the law, police officers who want to win favour with the ruling party misuse their position and harass political opponents. In a hearing on a plea filed by a suspended Chhattisgarh police officer who was charged with sedition by the Chhattisgarh government, the Supreme Court decided that the police should be held accountable for the trend.
