2:20Now PlayingIn a hearing on plea regarding the Tuticorin violence in 2018, Madras High Court has observed that it was wrong to open fire during the protest and called it a scar on democracy. Court further added that the government should not allow the corporates to influence them to this extent. The high court stated that it was clearly unfair to open fire on the citizens for the sake of corporates. Madras HC has asked the government to give compensation to the victims of the violence. Thoothukudi massacre took place on 22 May 2018 when the citizens came for the protest at the Thoothukudi Sterlite plant and police open fired on them. 13 died and 10 got injured in the horrific incident.
